Enmore vendor in ‘hot waters’ after threatening patron at bar


A vendor of Newtown, Enmore, East Coast Demerara (ECD) has found himself in hot waters after he allegedly threatened someone at a bar and was found with an unlicensed firearm along with matching rounds.

According to Commander of ‘C’ Division, Marlon Chapman, around 00:10hrs on Monday, the suspect was at a popular entertainment establishment (Raj’s Bar) in Newtown, Enmore, when he allegedly threatened a fellow patron.

Public spirited persons managed to subdue him while the police were summoned to the scene.

An unlicensed .38 Taurus revolver, five (5) live matching rounds and one spent shell were handed over to the police by the public spirited persons who indicated that the suspect had those on his person while he was making threats.

After being in police custody for some hours and statements taken by investigators, the suspect was escorted to his home for a search to be conducted.

To make matters worse, an unlicensed twelve gauge single barrel Stephen Shotgun and six (6) live cartridges were unearthed during this search. According to the police the shotgun and ammunition had been stashed away inside of the suspect’s wardrobe.
Commander Marlon stated that the suspect has admitted to ownership of the latter weapon and ammunition and is said to be co-operating with the police in their investigations.

However, he (the suspect) is expected to face the Courts on Tuesday, added the Police Commander.
