President Irfaan Ali has announced a one-off payment to National Insurance Scheme (NIS) contributors who, despite years of service, failed to make the minimum number of contributions required to qualify for a monthly pension.
The President announced this as part of his administration’s broader efforts to ensure social protection and financial relief for vulnerable citizens, especially the elderly, who may have fallen through the cracks of the system.
“We recognize that there are persons who contributed significantly to the workforce but, for various reasons, didn’t meet the contribution threshold. This one-off payment is a gesture of recognition and support,” President Ali said.
Thousands of pensioners are expected to benefit from the initiative as the government continues to roll out targeted financial assistance to various demographics nationwide.
The Ministry of Finance and the NIS will shortly announce further details on the payment structure and eligibility criteria.
