11 men hauled to Lethem Magistrate’s Court for breaching COVID-19 curfew

-each fined $16,250 with the alternative of serving six (6) months in jail

Just four days after several persons were hauled before the Lethem Magistrate’s Court, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) for violating the COVID-19 curfew and were each subjected to pay a fine with the alternative of spending six (6) months in jail, 12 more persons were taken to that Court today for the same offence.

The 12 men appeared before Principal Magistrate at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court, Allan Wilson, where 11 of them pleaded ‘guilty’ to the charge of breaching the curfew.

Each of these ‘curfew violators’ was ordered to pay a fine of $16,250 or sentenced to six (6) months in the lockups if they failed to pay.

Meanwhile, the lone male who pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the charge was placed on $5,000 Court bail.

Additionally, two other men who had been arrested for violating the COVID-19 curfew and were expected to appear at that Court today failed to show up. As such, arrest warrants have been issued for the duo and police are on the hunt to locate them.
