17% INCREASE IN VISITORS AS OF SEPTEMBER 2018

Guyana is expected to rake in about $31.4 billion from Tourism in 2019. Yaniss Abrams Reports.

As the Guyana Tourism Authority and their sister agency The Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana has hiked their strategies for promoting Tourism in Guyana, the Minister of Business with responsibility of Tourism Dominic Gaskin has announced that the GTA will receive $305 Million dollars from the 2019 National Budget. The Minister with responsibility of Tourism indicated that figures as of September 2018 compared with the same period in 2017 has hiked 17%. He also mentioned about 30,000 persons arrived in the country this year.

He also implied that tourism brings in one of the highest amounts of      foreign earnings in Guyana’s economy. 
Minister Gaskin also projected a high figure for tourism in 2019. 
 The Minister said the government realises the importance of this sector and its capacity to create and sustain employment and also the need to develop Guyana tourism product to keep up with increasing visitor arrivals.  As recent as last month, the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana has introduced an Essequibo Circuit tour which includes visits to several historical sites and resorts along the mighty Essequibo River which will be facilitated by Old Forts Tour.
