The struggle by a movement to construct a monument in honour of the East Coast Demerara slaves who were massacred by the colonial authorities in 1823 is gaining tempo. In 2013 the 1823 coalition movement spearheaded a move for the construction of a monument at parade ground. That was denied by the then Government. The team is now making steps to acquire the land at parade ground. Javone Vickerie reports.
