Police are investigating a fatal accident on the Farm New Scheme Public Road which occurred on Saturday night. Dead is Ishwar Mohan of 163 Second Street Success East Coast Demerara. According to reports 22-year-old, Jaleel Henry was driving motorcar PZZ 7322 at a fast rate of speed resulting in hitting Mohan who was lying at the side of the road. Police said that the man was dragged some distance from the scene and the driver failed to stop and render any assistance. He however drove to the Providence Police Station and reported the matter.
The 23-year-old pedestrian was then later picked up in an unconscious state by ranks of the Guyana Police Force and public-spirited citizens and then taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body was then escorted to the Memorial Gardens Crematorium for storage and awaiting post mortem.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver and no trace of alcohol was detected in his breath. He remains in custody assisting with investigations.
