GDF rank dead, pedestrian suffering head injuries following accident with car
A 26-year-old Guyana Defence Force (GDF) rank who was riding his motorcycle (# CK 2169) along the Liliendaal Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara (ECD), is now dead while a male pedestrian is suffering from head injuries following an accident with a motorcar (#PMM 309) on Tuesday.
Dead is Lancelot Giddings of Prince William Street, Plaisance, ECD.
Meanwhile, the injured pedestrian has been identified as 45-year-old Sheldon Booker of Bent Street, Georgetown.
At the time of the fatal accident, the motor car (#PMM 309) was being driven by a 31-year-old male of Shell Road, Kitty, Georgetown.
Reports are that around 09:35h on the day in question, Giddings was proceeding West along the Liliendaal Railway Embankment and while in the vicinity of Pump Road, Booker (pedestrian) attempted to cross the road and walked into the path of the motorcycle, which resulted in a collision with the motorbike (# CK 2169).
As a result of the collision, the 45 year-old pedestrian fell onto the road’s surface and received injuries about his body.
According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force (GPF), Giddings then lost control of his motorcycle (# CK 2169) and subsequently crashed into the motorcar (# PMM 309) which was proceeding in the opposite direction.
“The cyclist fell onto the roadway receiving injuries about his body. Both cyclist and pedestrian were picked up in an unconscious state by Emergency Medical Technicians and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where the motorcyclist was pronounced dead on arrival. At the time of this report the pedestrian was currently receiving treatment for head injuries in the Critical Bay of the Accident and Emergency ward.”
The cops noted that a breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of the motorcar (# PMM 309) but no trace of alcohol was found.
Investigators are reviewing Close Circuit Television (CCTV) footage of the accident as the probe continues.
