79-year-old man Dies following Meten-Meer-Zorg accident

On the Meten-Meer-Zorg Public Road, West Coast Demerara on Monday, a 79-year-old pedal cyclist, identified as Clayton Grant died following an accident.

The accident occurred at about 20:55 hours and involved motor pick-up PZZ 2877 owned by Sheriff Security Inc. which was driven at the time by a 32-year-old man of Ruimzeight, W.C.D.

Initial enquiries revealed that motor pick-up PZZ 2877 was proceeding west along the said road allegedly at a fast rate of speed when the 79-year-old pedal cyclist attempted to cross from north to south, and ended up in the vehicle’s path.

The front right portion of the vehicle hit the man and he was flung a short distance away.

79-year-old Clayton Grant who received several injuries about his body, was picked up in an unconscious state by police ranks and immediately rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The man’s body is presently at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a post mortem examination.

Further investigations are ongoing.
