8 persons scheduled for court after protest action infront of Edu. Ministry

The Guyana Police Force has reiterated its respect for the Constitutional Rights of citizens to a peaceful protest but will however take lawful action in ensuring the maintenance of law and order once those protests have degenerated into unlawful activities.This statement came after several persons were arrested by its body on Wednesday in front of the Ministry of Education building including host of KAMSTV and Buxtonian Morning Time Kidackie Amsterdam.They were a part of a larger crowd at the Square of the Revolution who were protesting against mandatory vaccination for COVID-19.It was deemed an illegal procession by the police and 8 persons including Amsterdam were arrested. They have been placed on cash bail for court on August 27, 2021.The law enforcement body in a statement mentioned, “the police monitored protest action by citizens at the Linden Martyrs Monument Park, Wismar, Linden, and at the Square of the Revolution, Vlissengen Road, Georgetown.”Further, the police stated that there was no incident at the Linden protest action involving about 500 persons.
