9-year-old boy struck down, killed by teen who allegedly took his father’s car without permission

A nine-year-old boy met his demise at Dazzell Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Sunday after being allegedly struck down by a motor car, which an unlicensed teenager drove.
Dead is Daniel Heywood of Lot 952 Bare Root, Bachelor’s Adventure and a student of Enterprise Primary School.
HGP Nightly News understands that Heywood was struck down at about 09:00h, while on his way to church at 12th Street, Dazzell Housing Scheme.
The 16-year-old driver told Police that he was proceeding south along the eastern side of the access road when he drove into a pothole and lost control of his vehicle, which collided with the boy, who stopped to tie his shoelace.
As a result of the collision, the boy was flung into a trench and received injuries on his body. The car then submerged into a trench.
Heywood was picked up by public-spirited citizens and rushed to the CC Nicholson Hospital at Nabacalis, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Investigations are ongoing.
