A FOURTH MAN REMANDED FOR MURDER OF BOURDA MARKET VENDOR

Another Stabroek Market Vendor was on Friday charged for murder. He is accused of committing the murder of well-known Bourda Market vendor, Troy Ramalho. Here is that story from Javone Vickerie.

20 year-old Nya John of Lodge, Georgetown is now the fourth person to appear before Chief Magistrates Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates Court for the murder. It is alleged that on August 15 while being in the company of others at Bourda Market, he murdered Troy Ramalho during the course or furtherance of a robbery. The accused was represented by Attorney-at-Law George Thomas who told the court that his client has provided to the police a strong alibi. The police’s case presented by Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield outlined that three other persons were charged for the same offence and are currently undergoing a preliminary Inquiry. The Chief Magistrate remanded John to prison until January 3, 2019. Engaged in a Preliminary Inquiry for the same offence is Roy Sandford, Akeem Morris and George Paton. According to reports, Ramalho, of 11 North Road, Lacytown, Georgetown, was shot around 23:00hrs on the day in question, after he resisted the three men who were robbing him. The 45-year-old Troy Ramalho, who was well known for selling cheese and eggs on Robb Street, in close proximity to Bourda Street, was plying his trade when the three bandits, one armed with a gun, ambushed him. The police, acting on intelligence, had arrested the taxi driver whose car the men hired in Buxton, East Coast Demerara.
