Fifteen adolescent mothers have been re-integrated into the formal secondary school system as part of the Ministry of Education’s re-integration programme which offers young Guyanese mothers the second chance they rightfully desired to re-enter school, whether it is the formal schooling system or an alternative education in the pursuit of the betterment of the quality of their individual lives
The launching ceremony for the initiative was held at the Carnegie School of Home Economics (CSHE ) recently. According to the Schools Welfare Department another 30 mothers would have chosen alternative education. It is hoped that with the decision of the mothers to be a part of the programme will result in them becoming productive citizens, particularly since many of them are already on that journey.
The principal of the CSHE, Mrs. Myrna Lee said that her institution has embraced the re-integration policy because it is cognizant and current to the school’s vision, mission and guiding principles. The Education Minister implored the young ladies to remain focused and engaged in what is necessary for them to successfully complete their respective
