A 36-year-old airport staff who married a woman last year while still being legally wedded to his first wife was hauled before the Court and slapped with a $100,000 fine along with a default sentence of 12 months imprisonment.
Thirty-six (36)-year-old Michael Taylor, an airport ramp attendant of Soesdyke village, East Bank Demerara (EBD appeared before Magistrate Rondell Weever at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (yesterday) where he was found guilty of ‘marrying’ a woman in February, 2020, while still being married to another female for over four (4) years.
Initially, Taylor had pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the bigamy charge and had been placed on $50,000 in bail, however, this was subsequently revoked after evidence was produced which proved his guilt in the crime.
As such, the man who fathered two (2) children with his “first” wife, was remanded to prison, pending sentencing for the charge.
HGP Nightly News understands that the “first wife” and Taylor had tied to knot in August, 2015, and had separated in November, 2019, following which Taylor moved from the residence they shared and began living in another home with another female (second wife).
It was reported that she and her husband shared no contact since they separated in November, 2019.
However, his “first” wife reportedly contacted the cops after she was told that her husband had “married” another woman in February, last, year, despite the fact that she (first wife) and Taylor had not been divorced.
The “first” wife subsequently visited the Registrar’s Office at the Guyana Post Office Corporation to investigate this matter and was made aware that her husband had committed a crime.
