ALMOST A DOZEN DISTRIBUTORS BEFORE THE COURT

Training of Police Prosecutors and Agents of the Food and Drugs Department has brought close to a dozen distributors before the courts with three already found culpable of their acts. Here are the details from Javone Vickerie .

Director of the Government Analyst Food and Drugs Department Marlon Cole said that the unit undertook several training exercisesaimed at enhancing its capability to deal with importers who deliberately import food, especially expired. Mr. Cole stated that despite constant seizures and exercises carriedout throughout the year, importers and distributors continue to disregard the health hazards associated with expired goods. The Director stated that this had led the department to take drastic measures by means of the law. Thus far there have been six cases filed to the court against errant importers.

Mr. Cole stated that several distributors are currently before the High Court for various offenses under the Food and Drugs Act. He affirmed that this behavior will not be tolerated.

The Food and Drugs Director stated that the packaging of powdered milk is still a contention of the department. They’re asking consumers to report milk being sold without proper packaging.
