APNU Begins protest action

APNU official

A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) began its countrywide protest action today at the Square of the Revolution, to further heighten calls for the holding of Local Government Elections. Many supporters bore placards petitioning the President to fulfill his constitutional mandate and begin the commencement order for LGE.

Opposition Leader David Granger, who was at the helm of the march, had requested that President Ramotar provide a date for the holding of LGE by the 15th of September. The President’s refusal to issue the commencement order for the holding of LGE is what prompted this action. Granger had promised to foster local, regional and international support, should an appropriate response not be provided.

Granger vowed to continue with his protest actions, should the President continue to negate his constitutional responsibility and deny the Guyanese citizenry their democratic right.
