Detectives are examining a potential murder/suicide involving Ajay Budhan, a 26-year-old farmer from Long Creek Soesdyke/Linden Highway, and Ashley Singh, an 18-year-old resident of Soesdyke. The incident transpired between 00:30 hrs and 06:30 hrs today (2023/8/14) on a Long Creek trail.
Details indicate that Budhan, a licensed holder of a semi-automatic 12-gauge shotgun, also owned a white Toyota Tundra with registration GAD 8403. Budhan and Singh, reportedly in a relationship, were last seen leaving a Hillfoot resort around 00:30 hrs in the aforementioned vehicle.
A 23-year-old laborer from Long Creek recounted spotting the parked Tundra with its lights on and a possible bullet hole in the right front door while riding a borrowed motorcycle. Acting on his suspicions, he alerted the police.
Upon arrival, authorities discovered Ashley Singh’s lifeless form in the passenger seat, showing signs of gunshot injuries. Beside the vehicle lay Ajay Budhan with a gunshot wound, his shotgun nearby.
On inspection, the shotgun had a round in the breach, with 18 spent casings and nine live rounds found in the vicinity. Two Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max phones were recovered. The victims were identified by relatives; Ajay by his brother Aaron Budhan, and Ashley by her cousin, Roland Baya.
Both were later confirmed deceased at the Diamond Diagnostic Center and were transported to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home for post-mortem examinations.
Investigations are ongoing.
