Baby dies after drunk dad allegedly falls asleep with foot pressing her body against bed

A four (4)-month-old female is now dead after her intoxicated father allegedly retired to bed and fell asleep with his right foot pressed against the baby’s chest and stomach.

The deceased has been identified as Kaylee Atkinson of Annandale, Essequibo Coast, who is said to have died around 01:55h on Sunday at her home.

HGP Nightly News understands that the now dead child’s mother, 17-year-old Trecia Atkinson, the 18-year-old dad, Troy Williams, and her 23-month-old sister reside in the lower flat of a two (2)-storeyed wooden and concrete building.

According to a police statement, the mother of the now dead toddler claimed that Williams usually consumes alcohol and returns home inebriated.

She told the cops that around 20:10h on Saturday, the man returned to their home, under the influence of alcohol, went into the kitchen area, and he fell asleep on the floor there.

The mother alleged that she subsequently retired to bed with her two daughters and that around 22:25h, Williams joined the in bed, before they all fell asleep.

According to the young mom, around 01:55h on Sunday, she awoke to breastfeed the now deceased child, and this is when she became aware that her husband’s right foot was pressed on their daughter’s chest and stomach.

She further stated that a “whitish substance was coming out” of the baby’s mouth while the little child remained motionless.

“She then woke up her husband (Troy) and they took Kaylee to the Suddie Public Hospital where she was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and pronounced dead on arrival. The body was examined by police but no marks of violence were seen. The body is at Suddie Public Hospital Mortuary awaiting a Post Mortem Examination (PME).”

Investigations continue.
