With the help of overseas-based Guyanese, a group from the Beterverwagting community says that delivering hampers to several residents on Christmas day was a humbling experience. Here is that heartwarming story from Javone Vickerie.
On Tuesday, Christmas Day, the group, comprising of other community groups within the Beterverwagting/Triumph, distributed more than 30 food hampers to residents both young and old. The donations were made possible by several overseas based Guyanese. Representative of the group, Jonelle Waldron explained to Nightly News that she was contacted by a group of overseas-based Boronians who expressed concerns and the need to give back to several persons in the village. Waldron said that herself and several other persons formed a group and began the work to identify several deserving persons for the hampers.
Another member of the team, Dwayne Duncan explained that distributing hampers to persons in the district was a very emotional experience for him.
Even though this is the first time the group made the kind gesture,
there is hope that with more support from Boronians in the
diaspora that it can become a tradition.
