Boat Captain arrested with cocaine in haversack

Two (2) men, one of whom is a Boat Captain, have been arrested after ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) found several transparent plastic bags containing cocaine, that was being transported by the Boat Captain allegedly from Parika, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) to be delivered in Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).

The discovery was made on Friday (yesterday) around 14:40h at the Bartica Stelling, Region Seven.

According to the police, the amount of cocaine from all of the plastic bags totaled 2 kilogrammes, 609 grammes.

Reports are that on the day in question (Good Friday) police ranks who were at that time performing duties at the Bartica Stelling contacted the Boat Captain, who was said to have been an inbound passenger on a speed boat from Parika, EBE.

According to a police statement, the ranks took the man to the Bartica Police Station where they conducted a search on a dark blue haversack that he was carrying.

The found four (4) black plastic bags each containing 22 transparent plastic bags with several large pieces of whitish rock-like substance that was suspected to be cocaine. 

The suspect was subsequently arrested, cautioned and stated that he had collected the cocaine from a “red man” at Parika and was in the process of delivering the illegal substance to the second (2nd) suspect who was in Bartica at that time.

“The named prospective receiver was also arrested and placed in custody. He has so far denied the allegation. The cocaine has been lodged as investigations continue.”
