Body of Brazilian miner found floating in Mazaruni River

A 37-year-old Brazilian was found lifeless in the Middle Mazaruni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) by the cops after they received reports that the man had been missing for days and his boat was “drifting” in the waters.

Dead is Allesandro Foss who is believed to have drowned between Saturday and Tuesday (yesterday) in the vicinity of Surinamo Landing.

According to a police statement, Foss was “left to look over a Dragger (water dredge) which is located in the Middle Mazaruni, (vicinity of Pappyshow Landing)” and on Tuesday morning news spread that he had not been seen for some three (3) days.

“Further enquiries stated that the victim’s boat was discovered drifting in the river. As a result, a party of policemen left making inquiries and on the said date about 11:30 hours the ranks discovered the victim floating face down in Middle Mazaruni in the vicinity of Surinamo Landing. His motionless body was fished out and same was examined for marks of violence but none was found.”

The body was escorted to the Bartica Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival and then placed in the Bartica Hospital mortuary where it awaits a Post Mortem Examination (PME).

Investigations are in progress.
