A teenager is now battling for his life after he was stabbed to his chest with an ice picker allegedly by a 41-year-old man who, moments before the assault, had taunted the youth about his mother being infected with the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The 15-year-old boy, who is a student and hails from New Amsterdam, Berbice was verbally, then physically assaulted by the suspect who is said to reside in Stanleytown village, New Amsterdam, Berbice, before being brutally stabbed by the man.
Reports are that last evening (Sunday) around 18:00h at Pope Street, New Amsterdam, the teen and his friend were standing on the roadway when the suspect passed by.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), while the man was in close proximity of the two boys, he made remarks about the teen’s mother, who is a nurse, stating that the health worker contracted the COVID-19.
The man’s comments did not sit well with the 15-year-old and as a result an argument ensued and the two males got into a scuffle.
During the physical altercation, the 41-year-old allegedly pulled out an ice picker from the waist of his pants and dealt a stab to the left side chest of the youth.
The injured boy was escorted to New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty who admitted him as a patient.
