Businessman allegedly robbed of $800,000 in cash and gold by male foreigner

A 54-year-old businessman who found his home ransacked when he returned after conducting business at another location, was allegedly robbed of $560,000 in cash and a 22 pennyweight gold chain valued at $240,000 by his employee, a 43-year-old foreign national.

HGP Nightly News understands that the robbery occurred between Sunday and Monday (yesterday) at Port Kaituma, North West District (NWD), Region One (Barima-Waini).

According to a police statement, the businessman left the suspect inside his home on Sunday and visited another location (some distance away) to transact business.

When he returned to his residence around 11:30h on Monday, he saw his home ransacked.

“He immediately made checks in his room and observed the said articles missing. The victim telephoned Port Kaituma Police Station via and reported the incident. Acting on information received the suspect was arrested at Acquero Police Station on May 17, 2021 (Monday) about 14:30 hrs.”

Investigations continue.
