Labour Ministers and policymakers from across the Caribbean gathered in Georgetown this week for a high-level meeting hosted by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), aimed at shaping the future of labour in the region.
The forum brought together key stakeholders to explore pressing issues such as digital transformation, youth unemployment, skills training, labour migration, and the impact of climate change on Caribbean labour markets.
“The world of work is rapidly changing, and so must our policies. This is a pivotal moment for the region,” said one ILO official during the opening session.
Guyana’s Minister of Labour, Joseph Hamilton, welcomed the delegates and emphasized the need for regional collaboration to ensure fair labour practices, protect workers’ rights, and build resilience in the face of emerging challenges.
The conference also included discussions on the role of artificial intelligence and automation, and how Caribbean economies can prepare their workforces through technical and vocational education.
