CGID CALLS FOR MARCH 2, 2020 GUYANA ELECTIONS TO BE NULLIFIED

The Caribbean Guyana Institute for Democracy in a recent statement has declared its position regarding the election results deriving out of the recount process. The organisation calls for the elections to be nullified due to the process being “riddled with fraudulent votes”.

“The exercise unearthed thousands of fraudulent ballots and over 6,710 voting irregularities. The evidence has exposed an opposition People’s Progressive Party (PPP) voter fraud scheme. Guyanese must not allow any fraudulent ballot to be counted in these elections.”

The organisation further outlined instances of fraud they believe were committed by the PPP. One of which involved the party’s operatives throughout Guyana voting for thousands of people residing abroad.

“The Police investigation and report verified, through immigration records, that out of a sample of 206 names that were registered as voted, 172 persons live abroad and were not present in Guyana on election-day.”

Also, the recount has revealed that thousands of dead persons have voted. According to the statement, the Death Registry provided death certificates to prove this claim.

“The only party defending these fraudulent ballots is the PPP, which now stunningly contends that GECOM has no power to investigate election fraud.”

CGID said that Guyanese deserve new elections that are free of fraud and results that reflect the will of the people.
