Chinese businessman allegedly robbed of $500,000 in cash, cellphone while returning home from outing

A 39-year-old Chinese businessman was allegedly attacked and robbed of $500,000 in cash along with his cellular phone, valued at $80,000, by two (2) men who pounced on him while he was returning home from an outing.

The Chinese national, identified as Awei Huo Die, was allegedly robbed around 02:00h on Saturday (today) outside of the AWEI Supermarket located at Vryheid’s Lust Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

The Guyana Police Force is investigating an alleged robbery with violence committed on Awei Huo Die, a 39-year-old male Chinese national and businessman.

According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the businessman was about to enter his yard while the two (2) suspects were passing him on the roadway, but they quickly turned towards his direction and approached him.

HGP Nightly News understands that they attacked the Chinese national and snatched his cellular phone and cash then made good their escape.

“Checks were made for the suspects in the area but they were not located. Investigation in progress,” the cops noted.
