CITY HALL COI RECOMMENDATIONS BEING FURTHER INVESTIGATED

The Report of the City Council’s Commission of Inquiry is being further investigated by the Local Government Commission. Implicated municipal officers have been granted additional time to respond to the report. Yaniss Abrams reports

The Local Government Commission is still to make a decision concerning the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry into the affairs of City Hall.  A statement issued by the LGC revealed that the unit is still perusing the findings of the COI which was handed over on December 3rd 2018..

During perusal of the COI’s report, the Local Government Commission had asked officers mentioned in the report to respond to the findings since that move was “in keeping with the rules of natural justice.”

One recommendation of the COI’s was that the SARA and the Guyana Police Force should lead a joint probe to ascertain the relevant criminal charge(s) to be laid.

Those individuals who were mentioned in COI’s report will be required to attend meetings organized by the Local Government Commission in the next two weeks.

The COI’s report consisted of 37 recommendations. The termination of the service of Town Clerk Royston King coupled with a recommendation that he faces criminal charges are included in the COI’s report.
