Construction worker busted with over 3lbs of cocaine at Bamia checkpoint

A construction worker was nabbed on Tuesday with 1,927.77 grams or 4.3 pounds of cocaine hidden in his bag at the Bamia checkpoint.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) reported that at about 12:40h, a Route 94 minibus (Georgetown-Lethem) transporting eight passengers heading to Georgetown was stopped.

The driver and the eight passengers were told to exit the vehicle so that they could be searched.

Dolon Oliver Vanderstoop, of Strathspey, East Coast (ECD), was seated IN the front passenger’s seat, and he had in his possession a bulky haversack.

Police conducted a search of the haversack and found inside a pink plastic bag containing two large whitish-rock-like substances suspected to be cocaine, concealed under some clothes.

Venderstoop was told of the offence committed and cautioned but remained silent. He was arrested and escorted to the Mackenzie Police Station. He was placed into custody and is expected to be slapped with a drug trafficking charge.
