Couple robbed of over $300,000 in cash, valuables by four (4) men armed with knives, cutlasses

An East Bank Demerara (EBD) couple was robbed of over $300,000 in cash and valuables by four (4) masked men armed with knives and cutlasses, after the duo had already retired to bed but awoken by a loud knocking on their door.

HGP Nightly News understands that the armed robbery occurred on Friday (yesterday) at Second Street, Craig, EBD, at the residence of Zahir Narine and Bibi Khan.

The armed quartet managed to make good their escape with one black PLUM cellular phone valued at $15,000, one (1) five (5) pennyweight gold chain worth $50,000, one (1) gold coloured Samsung cellular phone worth $48,000 and $207,000 in cash.

According to a police statement, after the man and woman were awoken by the loud knocking at their door, they both ventured into the living room and this was when the door was “kicked open and the bandits rushed in and relieved the victims of the mentioned items.”

Narine received injuries to his forehead in the process and after obtaining their loot, the four (4) perpetrators then made good their escape on foot through the back yard of the couple’s residence.

Investigations are in progress.
