COVID-19 curfew violator pushes Police Corporal, Inspector into drain, damages cop’s cellphone

A taxi driver has found himself in very hot water after he allegedly pushed a Corporal of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) into a drain during his arrest then did the same to a female Inspector who had been using her cellular phone to record the incident, damaging the woman’s phone in the process, as he attempted to resist arrest late Sunday night in New Amsterdam, Berbice.

Reports are that the incident took place around 23:22h when a Joint Services Patrol arrived in the vicinity of the Castle Hotel, Chappell Street, New Amsterdam, and saw a large gathering of persons on the roadway, many of whom were consuming alcohol and not wearing masks.

The taxi-driver in question is said to be 36-year-old Anthony Rahaman of

of Canefield, East Canje,  Berbice.

According to a statement from the GPF, when authorities began to arrest the COVID-19 curfew violators, Rahaman began behaving disorderly and was warned by a Police Corporal to desist from such behaviour but Rahaman ignored the waring and continued with his behaviour.
