A 13-year-old girl was found dead by her father on Tuesday (today) when he ventured outside of their East Bank Demerara (EBD) home and saw the teen hanging from a tree in the back of the yard.
The deceased was a student of the Soesdyke Secondary School who resided in the village of Timehri, EBD.
She is believed to have died between 15:00h on Monday and 05:30h on Tuesday.
According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the 13-year-old female left her home on Monday for an “unknown destination” and failed to return home on the said day.
Her father, a labourer, told the cops that around 05:30h on Tuesday (today) that he discovered his daughter “hanging from a tree” with a green belt tied around her neck.
“The police were summoned and examined the body but no marks of violence were seen. The body of the 13-year-old was later escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead by a Doctor on duty. The body is presently at Lyken’s Funeral Home awaiting a Post Mortem Examination (PME),” the police statement noted.
Investigations into the teen’s death are currently in progress.
