–UG offering support from ‘Care Team’ to those affected by youth’s death
The gruesome discovery of a partly decomposed body on Monday (yesterday) at Bell Vue, West Bank Demerara (WBD), ended the search for missing 19-year-old University of Guyana (UG) student, Joel Skeete, after his uncle confirmed that the body belonged to his nephew (Skeete).
UG in a statement on Tuesday (today) that it has its Care Team deployed and ready to provide whatever support to the now dead teen’s family and friends, including his teachers at that institution, who are deeply disturbed and saddened.
“The University has received the sad news today that the hopeful search that was being carried out for 19-year-old Joel Skeete did not end with his safe return to his family and friends as we had hoped….the University community mourns his loss and hopes that the authorities will be able to provide answers so desperately sought by those who survive him.”
The teen’s body was found on Monday (yesterday) lying face down among the rocks along the Western bank of the Demerara River in the vicinity of the Bell Vue area.
Skeete was reported missing last week after he “disappeared” shortly after leaving a barbershop located at the Harbour Bridge Mall, East Bank Demerara (EBD), six (6) days ago.
Skeete’s body is currently at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a Post Mortem Examination (PME). Investigations are continuing.
