Driver gets $300,000 bail for causing death by dangerous driving

Four months after 39-year-old Sursattie Prasad was struck down and killed, 27-year-old Ryan Boodhoo was on Tuesday arraigned on a causing death by dangerous driving charge and released on $300,000 bail.

Boodhoo, a driver of Lot 3511 Tuschen New Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), was hauled before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul in the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.

The charge stated that on May 5, 2023, at Good Hope Public Road, he drove motor car PMM 3473 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Prasad.

He was placed on $300,000 bail, and the case was adjourned to December 18, 2023, for report and fixture.

HGP Nightly News had reported that Boodhoo was allegedly proceeding on the Good Hope Public Road when he swerved to avoid colliding with motor van GAC 4554.

As a result, he ploughed into Prasad, who was pitched into a Guyana Power and Light (GPL) pole. Boodhoo and the motorcar ended up in a nearby trench.

The 39-year-old woman was rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
