A 34-year-old driver is now dead after a drinking session with friends on Sunday (yesterday) took a turn for the worse and ended with one (1) of the now dead man’s friends using a pair of scissors to deliver a fatal stab.
The deceased has been identified as Floyd Mc Garrell of “Wrong Turn Squatting Area”, Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).
HGP Nightly News understands that the tragedy took place around 04:45h at “Back Street”, Tuschen, EBE, and that a 41-year-old fisherman from the same village has been identified as the murder suspect.
Reports are that Mc Garrell resided with his 36-year-old spouse and around 02:00h on the day in question (Phagwah) he had been consuming alcohol with the suspect and two (2) other friends about 75 feet away from his home.
According to a police statement, the now dead driver left his friends and returned to his home to spend some time there, before he returned to the drinking session.
“Mc Garrell then went and continued consuming alcohol with his friends. Shortly after, around 04:00hrs, Mc Garrell’s reputed wife said she heard an argument with the now deceased man and his friends. As a result, she went and saw the deceased and the suspect in a heated argument.”
The suspect allegedly dealt the Mc Garrell a cuff to his face followed by a stab to his abdomen with a pair of scissors before he (the suspect) made good his escape.
The wounded Mc Garrell was assisted home, after which his reputed wife rushed to her neighbour for assistance in taking her bleeding husband to the hospital, but when she returned home she found Mc Garrell “lying motionless.”
“She then raised an alarm after which she reported the matter to Leonora Police Station, West Coast Demerara (WCD). The scene was processed. One stab wound was seen on the abdomen of the deceased.”
The cops added that several persons were questioned in the area and “useful information was received.”
Checks were make for the suspect, who was later arrested, then placed in police custody where he remains.
Mc Garrell was then taken to Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
His body was then taken to Ezekiel Funeral Home at Best Village, WCD, awaiting a Post Mortem Examination (PME).
