Two men- a 30-year-old and a 22-year-old, both of Middle Street, Sparendaam, East Coast Demerara were arrested after police discovered a 9mm pistol along with seven matching rounds of ammunition in a car they were in.
According to Police Headquarters, ranks acting on intel on Sunday between 03:45hrs and 04:00hrs went to Regent Street where they intercepted the motorcar which was parked in the vicinity of Pizza Hut. In the diver’s seat at the time was the 30-year-old male, and the 22-year-old was the other occupant in the vehicle.
“During a search of the car, the ranks unearthed a 9mm pistol with the serial number filed out along with a magazine and seven live matching rounds of ammunition under the driver’s seat.” A statement from the Guyana Police Force noted.
Both men were arrested and taken along with the seized weapon and car to the Brickdam police station.
They both remain in custody pending further investigations.
