Randolph Marques, 21, and Kevin France, 24, were not required to plead to the capital offence of murder when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry this morning in the Georgetown magistrates’ court.
Police are accusing the men of killing Patsan Trading salesman Bharrat Ramcharan. They were however remanded to prison.
While police Prosecutor Michael Grant argued that there are 18 witnesses thus to be called to testify, the accused’s attorney- at –law James Bond, told the court that Marques had been the victim of a “rigged ID parade”.
The lawyer maintained that a statement was obtained from Kevin France through “trickery and inducement”. When Nightly News questioned bond about the police’s claim of surveillance evidence, Bond said that the police has to produce what evidence they have.
‘If the police has such evidence, they have to produce it, thus far, no evidence has placed my clients on the scene of the robbery/execution’ Bond said.
Ramcharan was gunned down on April 24 during a robbery in front of the business place while returning with an undisclosed amount of cash.
