An 86-year-old pedestrian is now dead after he allegedly walked into the path of a motorcar (#PYY 114) which slammed into him along the Providence Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD) on Monday night.
Dead is Neville Williams of New Scheme, Herstelling, EBD.
HGP Nightly News understands that the accident took place around 21:30h on the day in question (yesterday) and the driver of the motorcar (#PYY 114) was identified as a 52-year-old male resident of Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
Reports are that the motorcar (# PYY 114) was proceeding South along the Eastern driving lane of the Eastern carriageway on the Providence Public Road, EBD, when the fatal accident occurred.
The 52-year-old driver told the cops that Williams walked across the road and ended up in the path of his car (#PYY 114) but due to the close distance between his vehicle (#PYY 114) and the now dead man, the front left side of his motorcar #PYY 114) collided with Williams.
According to a police statement, as a result of the collision, Williams fell onto the road, where he received injuries about his body.
“He was picked up in a conscious condition by the said driver, place into the said motor car and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) Accident and Emergency (A&E) Unit. There he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty who pronounce him dead on arrival.
The body of the deceased is presently lying at the GPHC mortuary awaiting PME with dissection.”
A breathalyzer test conducted on the driver of the vehicle (#PYY 114) revealed no trace of alcohol in his system.
He is presently in police custody as the investigation continues.
