The high-profile election fraud trial continued into its eighth day on Wednesday with a notable revelation, as Rosalinda Rasul, an independent observer representing the American Chamber of Commerce-Guyana (AMCHAM), returned to the witness stand.
Under intense cross-examination, Rasul admitted to the court that her written statement was provided at the request of Zulfikar Ally, the former head of AMCHAM, rather than being based on firsthand witnessing of any wrongdoing during the March 2020 General and Regional Elections.
The courtroom saw tense exchanges as the defense, represented by Attorney Ronald Daniels, sought clarification on Rasul’s understanding of events, particularly her allegations regarding the role of police officers and the supposed targeting of PPP/C party agents.
Rasul further clarified during testimony that her statement did not implicate former GECOM official Roxanne Myers in any wrongdoing concerning the tabulation process, nor did it suggest that Myers influenced or directed changes to election results.
The court adjourned until Thursday when Attorney-at-law Eusi Anderson is expected to conclude Rasul’s cross-examination.
The ongoing trial involves several former Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) officials, who collectively face 19 charges of conspiracy related to alleged electoral fraud in the highly controversial 2020 elections. Prosecutors have indicated their intent to call up to 72 witnesses to support their allegations.
