Exxon Mobil’s offshore drilling on Guyana’s coast has been controversial, but the company’s alleged violation of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) concerns environmentalists. The EIA is meant to ensure that the country’s ecosystems are protected during the drilling process.
According to former Environmental Protection Agency Head Dr. Vincent Adams, Exxon Mobil has consistently disregarded the EIA, putting Guyana’s ecosystems at risk. “Exxon Mobil’s actions are a clear violation of the EIA, and they are putting our ecosystems in danger,” Adams said. “We can’t allow this to continue. The company must be held accountable for its actions and ensure that they follow proper protocols to protect our environment.”
Adams’ comments come amid increasing pressure on the government to take action against Exxon Mobil and hold the company accountable for any environmental damage. Environmental groups have called for stricter enforcement of the EIA and for Exxon Mobil to be held responsible for any environmental harm caused by their drilling.
The situation has sparked outrage among the public, with many calling on the government to take a stand against Exxon Mobil and protect the country’s natural resources. “We cannot allow this irresponsible behavior to go unchecked,” said one concerned citizen. “Exxon Mobil needs to be held accountable for their actions and made to pay for any damage they have caused.
