A 46-year-old female motorcyclist is now battling for her life after she was struck off her motorcycle by an allegedly drunk taxi driver who was speeding along the roadway and lost control of his vehicle.
The injured woman has been identified as Abaqal Johnas of Courtland village, Corentyne, Berbice.
HGP Nightly News understands that the serious accident occurred around 17:00h on Monday (yesterday) at Bolam Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.
According to a police statement, at the time of the accident, the motor car in question was being driven by a 41-year-old male resident of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice.
The cops stated that investigations reveal that on the date and time mentioned above, the 41-year-old driver was proceeding at a fast rate of speed, lost control of his vehicle, then collided with Johnas’motor cycle.
As a result of the impact, the woman reportedly fell onto the road way where she received injuries about her body.
Johnas was picked up by public spirited citizens and rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where she was treated and admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) suffering from head injuries.
“The vehicles were lodged at Albion Police Station to be examined by a License and Certifying Officer. A Breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of the hire car which read 240 and 232 BCL respectively. The hire car driver remains in custody at this time and is assisting with investigations,” the police added.
