A 19-year-old female is now dead after she was reportedly stabbed to her abdomen by a young man who had attempted to stab her older male cousin during a birthday celebration held at her aunt’s residence.
Dead is Kameel Calistro of Sawn, Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke/ Linden Highway.
HGP Nightly News understands that the incident took place around 03:45h at her aunt’s Lot 11 Swan, Kuru Kururu residence.
Reports are that the now dead teen had been drinking and dancing to music that was being played from a vehicle, parked in front of the unfenced yard, while several others were in the vicinity consuming alcohol and dancing as well.
Around 02:00h on the day in question, the 20-year-old unemployed male suspect, who had been among those in attendance, became involved in an argument about “which girl can dance better.”
According to a police statement, the row was between the suspect and relatives of Calistro, and the argument quickly escalated.
The 20-year-old assailant reportedly whipped out a knife from his right side waist and attempted to stab a 29-year-old male, Adolph Joseph, a cousin of the now dead female.
“The knife gave him a minor laceration to the lower left side abdomen. The victim intervened and the suspect stabbed her to the left side abdomen. She then collapsed and was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The body is at the said hospital mortuary awaiting a Post Mortem Examination (PME).
The suspect was subsequently arrested and a knife was found in his possession.
According to the cops, at the time of his arrest, the 20-year-old suspect was highly intoxicated.
Investigations into the matter continue.
