On Monday night, a welding shop located at 271 Public Road Lusignan, on the East Coast Demerara went up in flames. Authorities are now trying to put the pieces together to ascertain the cause.
The wooden and concrete building of two floors, owned by Joseph Mohammed and occupied by Jamalodeen Mohammed as a welding shop. As a result of the fire the building and its contents were destroyed.
The Fire Department was made aware of the fire at 20:55 hrs and Water Tenders from the Alberttown, Campbellville and Melanie Fire Stations were immediately dispatched to the Lusignan location.
One jet from original tank supply and subsequently 2 jets from an open water source were used to extinguish the blaze.
In a press statement, the Guyana Fire service repeated its call for the appropriate fire prevention and response measures to be put in place to avoid the loss of private and public buildings and to avoid the risk of injury and loss of life.
