A senior firefighter has broken his silence, speaking out against what he describes as growing political interference within the Guyana Fire Service. He warns that it is jeopardizing operational effectiveness and putting lives and property at risk.
The officer, who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals, claims that political considerations rather than professional judgment influence decisions critical to emergency response, staffing, and resource allocation.
“Lives are being endangered because priorities are being set based on politics, not safety,” he stated.
The firefighter further alleged that interference affects promotions, deployments, and even the procurement of essential equipment, creating a toxic environment for frontline responders.
Calls are now mounting for an independent review of the fire service’s operations and for authorities to ensure that emergency services remain free from political pressure.
