The Ministry of Public Health has reported that four more persons have recovered from COIVD-19 taking the total number of recoveries to 84.
Of a total of 1,816 tests completed, total positive cases remain at 154, this is inclusive of 12 deaths while 1,662 tests yielded negative results.
There are now 58 active cases in isolation at various facilities across Guyana; 2 patients in the COVID-19 ICU at the GPHC and 14 persons in institutional quarantine.
During the ministry’s COVID-19 update, the Director of Primary Health Care, Dr. Ertenisa Hamilton cautioned citizens not become complacent because just one case was recorded in seven days.
“I encourage you to be extremely vigilant, as our vulnerability to imported cases is heightened given the current situation in the countries around us. In the last 24 hours, Brazil recorded 30,830 new cases and 1,127 deaths; Suriname now has ninety positive cases with eight new cases in the last 24 hours and neighbouring Venezuela, there are 58 new cases,” Dr Hamilton warned.
Persons were again reminded to always practise social distancing in the workplace, public spaces, and while using public transportation to reduce the spread of the coronavirus disease. They are also reminded to practise frequent hand washing/sanitising and always wear a face mask if they have to go out.
