A freak accident on Avenue of the Republic on Friday afternoon left the driver of a heavy-duty truck with a mangled left leg after the vehicle he was operating ran over his limb. The driver, whose name has not been released, was reportedly getting out of the truck when the incident occurred.
According to witnesses, the truck suddenly began to roll forward, trapping the driver’s leg underneath the wheels. Emergency crews arrived on the scene quickly and transported the driver to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The driver is said to be in stable condition but is expected to undergo surgery for his injuries. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation, but it is believed that the truck’s brake system may have failed.
The incident caused significant traffic delays on Avenue of the Republic as authorities worked to clear the scene. Motorists were advised to seek alternative routes while the investigation was ongoing. The trucking company that employs the driver has not yet released a statement regarding the incident.
