The Guyana Agricultural and General Workers’ Union ( GAWU ) is considering engaging those political parties that will be contesting the 2019 General and Regional Elections. This move by the union is aimed at understanding the take on the Industry by those looking to govern the country.
The current administration had argued that it was costing the state billions annually to keep the industry afloat. The PPP government repeatedly pumped money into the industry since traditionally, majority of its supporters came from the industry. Nevertheless, GAWU’s General Secretary understands well that everyone has a right to support any political party of his/her choice.
By consulting with political parties, then engaging members, Narine doesn’t see such as influencing members.
The Blairmont, Albion and Uitvlugt continue to operate under the management of GUYSUCO. Already for this year, the Estates, based billions annually from GAWU will fall short of their targets. This is the first year repeatedly pumped that there has not been a budgetary provision under the Ministry of Agriculture for GUYSUCO.
