GOV’T YET TO ADDRESS SLAYING OF THE HENRY BOYS AS COUNTRY CONTINUES TO FEEL THE BRUNT OF INJUSTICE – CATHY HUGHES

Alliance for Change (AFC) Member of Parliament Catherine Hughes is renewing calls for a comprehensive and transparent report into the brutal murders of Isaiah and Joel Henry, stating that the nation continues to wait despite repeated government assurances to address racial injustices.

Speaking during a recent press engagement, Hughes emphasized that the lack of closure in the case—nearly four years after the gruesome discovery of the teenagers’ bodies in West Coast Berbice—continues to weigh heavily on the nation’s conscience.

“We cannot speak of eliminating racial discrimination while denying justice to the families of the Henry Boys. The people of Guyana deserve to know the truth,” Hughes said.

Her remarks come amid the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination observance, where she also highlighted the importance of equal treatment under the law, regardless of race or ethnicity.

Hughes questioned the government’s sincerity in tackling racial injustice, arguing that justice delayed is justice denied, especially in high-profile cases that have deeply impacted Afro-Guyanese communities.

The Henry Boys’ case sparked nationwide protests and calls for justice in 2020. Still, the investigation has not yielded a full report or clear resolution, leaving many questioning the effectiveness of law enforcement and government oversight in such sensitive matters.
