Haiti: Presidential guards for assassinated president under scrutiny

Where were President Jovenel Moise’s 20-plus-strong presidential guards and what were they doing when Moise was gunned down and his wife seriously injured at the president’s private residence one week ago?

Those are some of the most intriguing questions being floating around on social media and elsewhere.

And Haiti’s judicial police are also intrigued as well.

According to a CMC report, at least 21 presidential guards have been questioned in the ongoing murder probe which has plunged the impoverished Caribbean country into chaos and uncertainty.

Authorities said the presidential guards were present when the gunmen, some of whom were former Colombian army officers, stormed the President Moise’s residence.

The mobile phones of the guards have been seized and a private security company have been prevented from leaving Haiti, CMC reported.

The National Police of Haiti, according CMC, have issued three wanted notices for three other men whom they considered are “armed and dangerous”.
