Fitness enthusiasts from around the country will assemble this weekend for the Guyana Fitness Games Health and Fitness Expo.
Several top athletes from gyms in Guyana will assemble at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall to test their abilities in the fourth annual Fitness games and Expo.
The two days of activities will kickstart on Saturday from 17:30 hours with a cancer awareness glow walk from the Genesis Fitness Gym to the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall followed by a Zumba after party.
Then on Sunday athletes will be engaged in the scaled cross fit competition from 15:00hrs, RX cross fit contest at 16:00hrs and the strong man competition from 18:00hrs.
Director of Sports Christopher Jones said it is the government encourages persons to live healthy lifestyles. More Guyanese are being encouraged to exercise consistently so as to avoid certain noncommunicable diseases.
A total of 30 athletes will be competing at this year’s event with 15 being female. Donovan Dongo of Suriname will be back in Guyana to compete with the locals which includes pulling trucks.
Tickets cost $500 and are available at Fitness Express on Sheriff Street and Genesis Fitness Gym in Durban Street.
Last year the event was held at the National Park and saw the participation of athletes from Guyana and the Caribbean. Along with a charity game which the participation of several local celebrities competing for charity.
