Horse cart operator stabbed to death over old grievance

A 25-year-old horse cart operator was on Monday night stabbed to death by a 20-year-old man over an old grievance.

Dead is Mark Harris, of Lot 90 Plum Park, Sophia. The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said the fatal incident occurred at about 19:30h.

HGP Nightly News understands that Harris and the 20-year-old suspect were known to each other and had an ongoing dispute.

Reports are that the victim and the suspect were both at a shop in Plum Park when an argument ensued.

The victim, who was allegedly armed with a knife, attempted to stab the suspect.

However, the suspect held on to the knife removed a pair of scissors from the waist of his pants and dealt the victim two stabs to his body.

The victim ran away and collapsed a short distance away. The suspect left the scene and went to the Prashad Nagar Police Outpost, where he reported the incident and handed the scissors to the Police.

The victim was picked up in an unconscious state and escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

One sliver blade knife without a handle was found on the scene. Several persons in the area were also questioned. Investigations are ongoing.
