41 ready old Dianand Lakhan and his friend, 36-year-old Aubrey Williams were slapped with a murder charge, after the friends confessed to killing Lakhan’s wife, Edith Reuben.
Lakhan and Williams, both of Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, appeared at the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday before Magistrate Judy Latchman. The men who are both laborers were not required to enter a plea and were remanded to prison until March 3, 2022.
On February 9, 48 year old Edith Reuben was found hanging from a mango tree in her yard at Yarrowkabra. Police headquarters reported that Reuben’s husband Lakhan told investigators that friends were drinking. Then, around 04:00hrs, Williams who spent the night at their house, woke him up and told him he was leaving. The husband said he went back to sleep and when he woke up two hours later he discovered found his wife hanging from the tree.
However, police originally suspected foul play. Investigations reveal that Lakhan found Williams and his wife in a comprising position. The men then teamed up on Reuben and reportedly hit her in the head multiple times. After she became unconscious, the men then placed her to hang from the tree to make it look like a suicide.
A post mortem examination later confirmed that Reueben, a housewife, died as a result of asphyxiation due to hanging compounded by blunt trauma to the head.
Lakhan and Williams were subsequently arrested and reportedly confessed to murdering the woman.
